English as a Second Language (ESL) Programs

Our degree and diploma programs require proficiency in English.

The first step is to apply for admission. If you can show you have been an English-medium student for many years or the necessary IELTS or TOEFL (or other) test score, and if your academic grades are sufficient, you will be admitted and can start your studies in the next semester. Note that each university has its own required scores for different tests like IELTS or TOEFL or others.

If you need ESL, but your academic grades are sufficient for your program, then you will first start studies in English. There are different levels, to make sure that you develop and improve at the most suitable stage and speed for you.

CUAC universities offer excellent preparation to make sure you are ready to start your studies. They use the best instructors, usually with advanced degrees in English and Applied Linguistics. The instructors offer teaching of academic English, meaning not just English for daily life, but for studies and for careers.

The programs are highly flexible with start dates throughout the year.

They offer special emphasis on:

  • Academic Vocabulary Development
  • Pronunciation
  • Oral Fluency
  • Listening and Note-taking
Studying English as a Second Language at a CUAC university will also teach you about Canada, Canadian life and culture and about the university campus and culture too.

As you get more advanced, you will be introduced to specific preparation you need for the program you wish to study. There are also special sessions introducing the libraries, computer facilities, student advising officers, and academic classrooms so you will be very familiar with the campus and prepare to begin your studies at full speed.
